New English Ballet Theatre Presents: Baroque & Roll

This dynamic mixed bill by world-class choreographers combines everything ballet is today in a single evening with music from Bach to Genesis: grace, poise and beauty mixed with humour, wit, and satirical social commentary.

It will take you from the Baroque courts of Europe to the Wild West, with some hippie flair and Stepford Wives thrown in for good measure.

Whether you are a seasoned ballet lover or new to dance, Baroque & Roll will be an evening to remember, with a great variety of music and choreographic styles, danced by an exceptionally talented company.

The evening begins with Baroque Encounters by Daniela Cardim. To the sound of two beautiful harpsichord pieces by Baroque master Johann Sebastian Bach, seven dancers playfully explore the patterns and moods of the music.

Did You Steal My Hat? by French choreographer and director Constant Vigier shows that some incidents can really make people show their true colours – conversations can go wild, accusations can be made, and friendships can be lost…

The second half of the evening is a firework of short ballets by Royal Ballet Character Artist, Kristen McNally. Known for her witty and quirky choreographic style, McNally has been working with New English Ballet Theatre since 2012.

Her Lonesome Gun is an expression for her love of all things Wild West, while in Mad Women a group of flesh-and-blood Stepford wives take power for themselves to get what they want.
With Invisible Touch and I Can’t Dance McNally has created unforgettable dance versions of two masterpieces of pop music history by megaband Genesis.

New English Ballet Theatre (NEBT) is a dynamic professional ballet company dedicated to producing new commissions that represent the versatility and significance of ballet today. To date, NEBT has produced ten critically acclaimed West-End shows, performing at over thirty venues in the UK, including prestigious theatres like the Royal Opera House and Sadler’s Wells.

“Across the eight pieces of dance, and their different dance styles, what remains a constant pleasure is the skill and dedication of the New English Ballet Theatre dancers.” Seen and Heard International
