Showing at The Eric Morecambe Centre… Harpenden Musical Theatre Company is delighted to bring ‘CURTAINS’, the Tony Award-winning musical murder mystery, to the Eric Morecambe Centre.
Combining the glamour of Broadway with the intrigue of a classic whodunit, this show promises an evening of laughter, suspense, and unforgettable music.
The year is 1959, and Boston’s Colonial Theatre is playing host to the opening night performance of a new musical, “Robbin’ Hood”. Just as the curtain falls, so does Jessica Cranshaw, the profoundly untalented leading lady of the production!
The cast and crew are thrown into chaos … and under suspicion. Enter Lieutenant Frank Cioffi: a fast-talking Boston detective who just happens to be a musical theatre fanatic.
He quarantines the cast and crew inside the theatre while he searches for clues. But Cioffi doesn’t just investigate the murder, he finds himself juggling a budding romance, backstage drama, and also offering advice and insight into improving Robbin’ Hood. After all, the musical will open again in 24 hours with a new leading lady, so the clock is ticking to find the killer and put on a killer show. Everyone is a suspect, and only Cioffi can make sense of the evidence.
Packed with glorious tunes by Kander & Ebb (Chicago and Cabaret), and a witty, charming book by Rupert Holmes, CURTAINS is a hilariously suspenseful musical-theatre parody of whodunnit classics, with numbers ranging from the classic musical theatre song-and-dance “A Tough Act to Follow” to the heartfelt “I Miss the Music.” A comedic send-up suitable for all ages, that will have you laughing until the last curtain falls.
