Lecturer: Alan Silman, Professor of Medicine at Oxford University with a particular research interest in famous people and their pathologies.
A biography of Pierre-Auguste Renoir, one of the leaders of the Impressionist style of painting. He has been described as a celebrator of beauty and especially female sensuality. His pictures are often warm and happy with an overall feeling of lightheartedness, joy, and pleasure in his subjects.
In his latter years Renoir developed rheumatoid arthritis but continued painting for twenty years despite crippling pain and deformity.
