A Boy from Lowestoft: The Life and Works of Benjamin Britten
Lecturer: Roger Askew, arts lecturer and former choral scholar at Magdalen College Oxford
2026 will mark the 50th anniversary of the death of one of this country’s most original and versatile composers, Benjamin Britten. Britten is internationally famous for his operas, notably Peter Grimes, and also for choral works including the War Requiem and the many song cycles he wrote for his muse and partner, the tenor Peter Pears. Britten and Pears co-founded the Aldeburgh Festival in the Suffolk town where they lived, and it remained Britten’s home until his death in 1976.
