The Arts Society Harpenden Evening

Showing at the Eric Morecambe Centre…
Simon Keable-Elliott: 1920s Tahiti – English-speaking writers and artists
What was the attraction of 1920s Tahiti? Why did writers and artists such as Robert Keable, George Biddle Dean Frisbie, Charles Nordhoff, James Norman Hall, & William Alister Macdonald follow Paul Gauguin, and decide to settle there? What were they escaping? Were they successful?

A Durham graduate, Simon Keable-Elliott was Head of Politics and Director of Model United Nations at Royal Russell School, now a researcher, lecturer and author of magazine articles and a book, “Utterly Immoral, Robert Keable and his scandalous novel” (2022)
